But it is not just the throne between Starks and the Boltons. The ruthless ruler Ramsay has already warned his estranged wife Sansa and the former Lord Commander of the Night's Watch that he has held Rickon, the youngest son of Ned Stark, as hostage.

The episode will feature multiple layers of emotions amid war. In the promo, Ser Davos was shown standing next to a pile of lumber and this sparked speculation that he might have learnt the truth about slain King Stannis's daughter Shireen.

Melisandre worked her magic on Jon Snow to resurrect him in the season 6 premiere episode but it seems Ned Stark's bastard son has no intention to live another life if he dies in the battle. Hence, before marching to war, he will tell the Red Priestess not to bring him [Snow] back to life if he falls.

As shown in the promo, Snow's army of wildlings is outnumbered by that of Ramsay's and it appears that the Starks may lose the battle. However, if Sansa's distress letter reaches Lord Petyr Baelish aka Littlefinger, she might be able to help a bit with her step brother.

The 60-minute episode is directed by Miguel Sapochnik and it took 600 crew members, 500 extras, 25 stuntmen and women and 25 days of shooting to film the episode (via EW).

Meanwhile, Sapochnik told EW, "Every battle on Thrones is unique. I think that's why [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] keep doing them. In the case of 'Battle of the Bastards' – or 'BOB' as we affectionately called it in production – David and Dan wanted to do a thing of spectacle, a strategic pitchfield battle they hadn't had the resources to do back in season 1 or 2. I was particularly interested in depicting both the horror of war and the role of luck in battle."

Game Of Thrones season 6 episode 9 titled Battle Of The Bastards will air on Sunday (19 June) on HBO in the US.
