George Zimmerman was released around midnight Sunday from a county jail on $150,000 bail as he awaits his second-degree murder trial for fatally shooting unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin in a gated community.

The neighbourhood watch volunteer left carrying a paper bag. He met a man in a white vehicle and drove away. His ultimate destination is being kept secret for his safety and it could be outside Florida. He cannot have any guns and must observe a 7pm to 6am. curfew. Zimmerman also surrendered his passport. The case ,sparked national protests led by Martin's parents, and civil rights groups as Zimmerman wasn't charged for 6 weeks and his defence touched on the right to carry arms, for protection.
