Amos ran down Rudisha to win a shock gold.

Olympic Champion and world record holder David Rudisha suffered a shock defeat in the men's 800m final as Botswana's Nijel Amos won gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Rudisha led for much of the race before being run down in the home straifght by Amos, who finished second to the Kenyan at the London 2012 Olympic Games. South Africa's Andre Olivier took bronze.

The 2011 world champion Rudisha suffered knee problems throughout 2013 which affected his preparation for Glasgow yet the loss at Hampden Park comes as a significant surprise.

"The race was good, but I found the last 100m difficult," he told BBC Sport. "My preparation hasn't been great. Nijel is a tough competitor. We ran a tactical race but he was very good."
