Three members of the same family are feared to have died in the Glasgow city bin lorry crash, according to some unconfirmed reports.

Witnesses also spoke of seeing a buggy containing up to two babies in the path of the bin lorry as it careered on to the pavement and in to the Millennium Hotel, at around 2.30pm.

Tea shop worker Sarah Smith, 21, reported seeing a young pregnant woman lying on the ground as two paramedics give her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Police ruled out a terrorist motive soon after it happened. The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital, amid reports he was seen slumped over in the cab.

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said her heart went out to those affected by the tragedy.

"It is almost impossible to imagine what they are going through. I know that everyone across the city, across Scotland, across the UK, will be thinking of them today."

A cordon remained around the scene on Tuesday morning.
