Police in Scotland are continuing to appeal for information after a man died from cutting his own throat in front of horrified eyewitnesses in in Glasgow city centre.

The 33-year-old started harming himself after deliberately attacking another man of the same age at approximately 4pm on Thursday (13 April) at West Nile Street.

He ran north on the road before attacking a male Glasgow City Council Community Warden but soon stopped and begun slashing himself.Witnesses said he was armed with two knives and hatchet and photos from the scene show a pool of blood in the middle of the road.

Police arrived at the scene and used pepper spray to disarm the man before he was taken by ambulance to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he died a short time later.The two men he attacked were taken to hospital with injuries to their arms and one has since been released.

Police said the man was running away after carrying out a "targeted" attack.

"From our enquiries so far, we know that the initial attack was targeted – it was not random; it was planned and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with it," Detective Superintendent Laura Thomson said.

"However, although we have had a great response from members of the public who were there at the time, we need people to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation," said Thomson. "Officers, including specialist forensic teams, are still at the scene carrying out enquiries and checking CCTV. Additional officers are in the city centre to provide public reassurance.
