The PC version of Grand Theft Auto V might be announced shortly, possibly ahead of Christmas, if a rumour is to be believed.

According to information sourced to Amazon's Support, the announcement is imminent, followed by a release date set for 12 March.

The German gaming site, Spieletipps, reportedly picked up the rumour and obtained a screenshot during an exchange with the support team.

The screenshot can be viewed on the site's Facebook page.

According to gaming observers, the speculation could make sense since Amazon has accidentally leaked release dates of video games in the past.

Information on games like the PC versions of Mortal Kombat and Injustice was first leaked on Amazon.

Earlier, another rumour related to the issue caught the attention of the gaming community. A pre-order release from a Norwegian retailer said that the PC version would make its debut during 19 March, 2014.

Despite fan clamour for a PC version of the game, Rockstar, the publisher, has not come out with anything concrete. It has simply asked fans to stay tuned for updates on its newswire. Fans even went to the extent of signing a petition, which has now garnered over a million signatures online.

There is also speculation that the PC version of the game might still be under development. The reason being that while the console versions of the game leaked online prior to their launch, the PC version was nowhere to be seen.

There is also widespread speculation on the game being made available for next-gen consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One.

When asked about the game, a representative told TheSixthAxis: "I am sorry but for PS4 and Xbox One there is no update yet, please check back by first week of January. We might have the update by then please."
