Temperatures have plunged to well below freezing in many parts of the UK, as the cold weather continues to edge its way across parts of the England and Wales. With temperatures as low as -8C – causing areas to completely freeze over – it is a drastic contrast for what was once considered to be the warmest winter on record.

Photographer Matt Cardy has captured the city of Bath on one particularly icy morning, from the frosty edges of the barges which have been frozen into the solid icy water of the Kennet and Avon canal, to the thick mist and fog rising over the town centre on a bitter January morning. Cardy focuses on the intricate details given off by the Arctic blasts which the city has recently seen.
