A teenager has been charged with terrorism offences after she and her boyfriend were arrested at Heathrow Airport IBTimes UK

Coventry teenager Zakariya Ashiq has been charged with terrorism offences related to Syria, after she he at Heathrow Airport last Thursday.

Ashiq was arrested after he disembarked a plane that had landed at Heathrow from Jordan.

He has been charged with preparing for acts of terrorism and assisting others to prepare for acts of terrorism, contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

Ashiq, of Foleshill, north Coventry, will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court this afternoon.

His arrest was "pre-planned and intelligence led", West Midlands Police said.
