The summer blockbuster season is in full swing at the moment, and you may be surprised to know that many of this year's biggest movies feature heavy British involvement.

Whilst other sectors stagnated during the recession, Britain's film industry blossomed. £1.1bn was spent on film production in the UK in 2013, up 7.5% on the previous year, with around 42,000 people currently employed in film production. The British film industry has become big business.

But how has the UK become one of the global centres for film production, and will this trend continue in the future?
