Beasts Of No Nation actor Idris Elba has reportedly split from his girlfriend and mother of his son Naiyana Garth. The couple are said to have ended their three-year relationship quietly and will continue co-parenting their 22-month-old son Winston.
Although it is not known who ended the relationship, The Sun reports that Elba, 43, has moved out of the home he shared with Garth, 28, and Winston in south-west London and is now residing in a nearby apartment so he can remain close to his son. Revealing the alleged break-up, a source told the newspaper: "It ended very recently and it's too soon for her to talk about it. They've kept it very quiet so she's surprised people know already."
Elba began dating the make-up artist in 2013 and Garth's pregnancy was revealed when she joined him on the red carpet at various industry events including the Harper's Bazaar Women Of The Year awards in November 2013 and the Golden Globes in January 2014. Their son Winston was born in April 2014.
Rumours that Elba's relationship with Garth was in trouble began circulating when she did not accompany him at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on 30 January, with the Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom actor instead walking the red carpet with his daughter Isan, whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Norgaard.
The Wire actor only added fuel to the split speculation when he did not mention Garth in his acceptance speech at the Evening Standard Film Awards on 7 February 2016 and later told reporters coyly when quizzed about the break-up rumours: "That's the media for you."
Although his children live in separate countries, Elba has proudly maintained a strong bond with both his son and daughter, saying in November 2015: "My relationship with my children is very, very strong, considering I'm never home. I do have a quirky existence. It's not ideal. I move around."
Elba's four-year marriage to Norgaard ended in 2003 while his first marriage to Sonya Nicole Hamlin lasted one year.
