Overview

After T20 success against Australia in their own backyard, India were hoping for a similar series when they took on their neighbours in the subcontinent. However, things did not go as per plan for MS Dhoni's men in the first T20I.

India's batting order collapsed as Ravichandran Ashwin (31*), Suresh Raina (20) and Yuvraj Singh (10) were the only batsmen to have scored in double digits. The hosts lost their first five wickets with just over 50 runs on the board.

It was Ashwin's contribution down the order that allowed the 2007 World T20 champions to cross 100 runs, as they were bowled out for 101. Sri Lanka had no trouble in chasing the target as they reached the total without any urgency, despite losing five wickets.

Debutante Kasun Rajitha was the star player for the Lankans with the ball. He managed to take wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane.
