An 8.7-magnitude earthquake hit waters off the western coast of Aceh in northern Sumatra. This, coupled with tsunami warnings for all countries in the area has people panicking and praying. Memories of the 2004 quake, which also struck Banda Aceh and resulted in the death of several hundreds of people, as well as giant tsunami's that battered India's eastern coasts are coming rapidly to the fore.

The epicentre of the latest earthquake is reportedly very close to the 2004 quake and tsunami warning has been issued to 28 countries already. The respective countries have issued warnings in their territories asking for evacuation from coastal areas.

In the light of all that has happened, people from around the world have taken to Twitter with messages of goodwill and offering support to affected victims.
