Instagram's fifth birthday: Kendall Jenner, Justin Bieber and other most-liked photographs

As Instagram reaches its fifth birthday on 6 October, it is at the point where the majority of people have the free image-sharing app downloaded to their mobile phones or tablets or whatever device they can get their hands on.

Much like Facebook did when it first came about just over 10 years ago, Instagram quickly became a staple component of a lot of people's online presence and before long, it took off amongst the general public and numerous celebrities. Created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and developed by the people behind Facebook, its success is unsurprising, however. It seems fair to say, we all just can't help sharing what we had for lunch or what outfit we are wearing on any given day...

To celebrate the app hitting the five-year milestone, IBTimes UK takes a look at some of the most liked photographs on the platform, from Justin Bieber sharing a snap with Will Smith to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's wedding...

Ellen Degeneres' Oscar selfie was arguably the first photo that caused a stir online as it became the most liked and most shared image circling the internet when it was taken almost two years ago. The snapshot featured some huge stars, including Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.

Almost all of Kylie Jenner's Instagram posts manage to reach over one million Likes almost as soon as they are uploaded, but this one of her getting ready to "head out" is both one of her most recent shares and proved popular among fans.

Considering they both have huge fan-bases individually, it's no surprise that the coming together of Will Smith and Justin Bieber almost imploded the internet. The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air and the modern-day prince of pop? We liked it, and so did 1.5 million others.

Selena Gomez certainly has her fair share of followers when it comes to Instagram with 45.9 million signed up to be notified of whatever snap she shares, so it makes sense that many of her posts rank up there with the most liked.

Harry Styles wishing his sister a happy graduation still remains one of the most popular pictures on Instagram, even though it was posted almost two years ago.

Two celebrities in one image is always a recipe for success and picking the hugely-popular Miley Cyrus as her selfie partner earned Ariana Grande a spot in the most liked hall of fame.

Just last month, Taylor Swift eased past the reigning queen of Instagram, Kim Kardashian, when she overtook her when it comes to the number of followers each of them have. Swift is now (we're assuming), the proud owner of the most followed-Instagram account in the world, with 49.6 million followers.

Just look at that face! And for once, we're not talking about Beyoncé's flawless complexion. With Blue Ivy's cute but funny expression in this snap, there's no wonder it did so well on the Likes front.

Almost a year and a half ago, Kardashian shared a sweet image of her wedding day, when she married West and it rivals many of her sister's photographs as being one of the most popular on the app.

To this day, Kendall Jenner's romantic-looking selfie remains the most-liked image on Instagram, earning itself an impressive 3.1 million likes.
