Samsung Galaxy Note Samsung

A new Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) firmware has been leaked for the Samsung Galaxy Note. This firmware comes with the build number XXLSA. This firmware allows user to obtain the multi-window multitasking feature. In addition, users can customise toggles in the notifications menu. This firmware is reportedly a more stable version of previous firmwares and the rooted version, which can be flashed from custom recovery, was released by XDA recognised contributor eybee1970.

Before proceeding, ensure all onboard data is backed-up. IBTimes UK cautions its readers to proceed at their own risk and will not be held responsible if you damage or brick the device during installation.

To Install XXLSA Android 4.1.2 Firmware on Galaxy Note

Part I: Download ROM

  • Download the ROM
  • Copy ROM's file to the device's internal storage card

Part II: Flashing Safe Kernel

  • To install drivers on the device, you have to download and install Kies software. You may directly download the drivers from here: 32 bit (x86) Windows | 64-bit (x64) Windows
  • Download CF-Root Kernel
  • Unzip the downloaded zip file. You will obtain a .tar file - CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LC1-v5.3-CWM5.tar. Flash this via Odin to obtain root access and install ClockWorkMod (CWM) Recovery
  • Download Odin 1.85 and extract contents
  • Unplug the device, if connected to a PC, and switch it off
  • Re-start device in Download Mode (to do so, press and hold Volume Down, Home and Power buttons. A Warning! Screen will now appear. Press Volume Up to enter Download Mode)
  • Double-click on Odin
  • Click on PDA and choose CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LC1-v5.3-CWM5.tar
  • Connect device to computer. A successful connection is indicated with a message saying Added under Odin's message box. If the message does not appear, ensure drivers are installed properly, as explained in the first step
  • Tap Start to begin flashing CF-Root kernel. After flashing, the device will reboot by itself and can be unplugged after the Samsung logo appears onscreen. In addition, a Pass message will appear in the left box of Odin

Note: If Odin gets stuck or a Fail message appears, unplug device from PC, close Odin and remove and re-insert battery. Now, turn device on in Download Mode and repeat above procedure from that step

  • After successful flashing, remove and re-insert battery but do not switch on the device

Part III: Install ROM

  • Boot into CWM Recovery (to do so, press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons until screen turns on. The device will now boot into CWM Recovery)
  • Choose Wipe Data/Factory Reset and then select Yes to confirm wiping process
  • Choose Install Zip from SD Card and then select Choose Zip from SD Card. Scroll to and select ROM file. Tap on Yes to confirm installation
  • Select Go Back and choose Reboot System Now to reboot the device and boot up into XXLSA firmware

The Galaxy Note should now be running XXLSA Android 4.1.2 firmware
