XXDLI4 Android 4.1.1 update is available for Samsung Galaxy S3. Revolution Tech News

A new test firmware - XXDLI4 Android 4.1.1 - has been released for the Samsung Galaxy S3 (international version). This followed the leak of XXDLI3. TuttoAndroid reports the updates brings fixes to screen brightness issues and Wi-Fi concerns, as well as optimising RAM.

Users looking to update their phones may follow the instructions below. IBTimes UK warns its readers it will not be held responsible for any damage caused. Ensure important data is backed up before proceeding and verify model number (it must be i9300). Also ensure the device is factory unlocked and the battery has more than 80 percent charge. Also download USB drivers for the Galaxy S3 and enable USB debugging mode.

Steps to Install XXDLI4 Android 4.1.1 for Galaxy S3

    • Turn device off and place it in Download Mode (to do so, press and hold Volume Down, Power and Home buttons until a warning message appears and then press Power once again to enter Download Mode)
    • Start Odin on the computer
    • Connect the device to the computer, while the former is in Download Mode
    • In Odin, select these file in the order mentioned
        • Click on PDA and select file CODE
        • Click on PHONE and select file MODEM
        • Click on CSC and select file CSC
        • Click on PIT and select file .pit
        • Note: Ignore first three steps if such files are not found
    • Begin installation through Odin
    • After installation, the Galaxy S3 will automatically restart. You may now unplug device from the computer
    • Once unplugged, switch phone off again and place it in Recovery Mode (to do so, turn on phone simultaneously pressing Volume Up, Home and Power buttons)
    • Browse to Recovery Menu and select Wipe Data > Factory Reset and confirm data wipe
    • Reboot system to boot in to new firmware

The Galaxy S3 is now running Android 4.1.1 XXDLI4 firmware. You may check version by navigating to Settings > About Phone.

To Root XXDLI4 Firmware

    • Turn device off and place it in Download Mode (to do so, press and hold Volume Down, Power and Home buttons until a warning message appears and then press Power once again to enter Download Mode)
    • Start Odin on the computer and connect the device to the computer, while the former is in Download Mode
    • In Odin, click on PDA and select root package file CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4.tar
    • Start installation; this may take a few minutes
    • After installation, the phone will restart. You may unplug device once the Home screen appears

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is rooted with XXDLI4 Android 4.1.1.
