The first person to travel into space was Yuri Gagarin, in 1961. To mark this event, the International Day of Human Space Flight is held every year on 12 April. Fifty-five years later, 536 individuals have left our planet on a voyage into space.

Life in space is somewhat different to that on Earth. Astronauts grow taller due to the lack of gravity working on their vertebrae, using the toilet is more difficult and you play ping pong with balls of water. Food is similarly odd. Eating and drinking in space is completely unlike here on Earth, and this infographic shows how different it really is.
