Apple has started rolling out the iOS 10.1 OTA update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. The latest update is the first major update for iOS since Apple released the iOS 10 at its September event.

The update comes with build number 14B72 or 14B72c bringing a host of fixes including a critical Bluetooth connectivity error that showed up when connecting to third party devices. For lucky iPhone 7 and 7 Plus users, the update brings an all-new portrait mode which some beta testers got to experience a few days back.

To get the OTA update on your device, go to Software Update under Settings on your device and connect your iPhone or iPad to a power source. Then tap Install Now. Make sure you have more than 50% charge and a reliable Wi-Fi when downloading the update.

The latest update will be available to all those devices that got the iOS 10 update. These are :

  • iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4, iPad 4th generation, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro 9.7 inch and iPad Pro 12.9 inch
  • iPod touch 6th generation

Apple has also released the changelog for the update which tells us the major changes and introductions that comes with the update:

Camera and Photos

  • Portrait mode only for iPhone 7 Plus that creates a depth of field effect
  • People names in the Photos app are saved in iCloud
  • Display of wide color gamut photos in grid views improved
  • Camera app launch issue fixed
  • Photos disappearing when launched on iCloud Photo Library fixed

Maps

  • Transit support for major train, subway, ferry, and national bus lines
  • Sign-based transit navigation including layouts of all underground structures and walkways that connect large stations
  • Transit fare comparison

Messages

  • Now replay bubble and full screen effects
  • Contact names appearing incorrectly in Messages has been fixed
  • Messages opening to a blank screen issue has been fixed
  • Videos captured and sent in the Messages app was missing audio in some cases. That has been fixed

Other major improvements and fixes

  • Bluetooth connectivity with 3rd party error fixed and improved
  • Some users could not restore from iCloud Backup. That has been resolved
  • iPhone 7 Home Button click settings issue fixed
  • Weather widget failing to load data has been fixed
  • AirPlay Mirroring performance when waking a device from sleep improved
  • Playback not working for iTunes purchased content fixed
  • Fixes an issue in Safari that caused web previews in tab view to not display correctly
  • Mail messages were being reformatted with very small text for some users. That has been fixed
  • Spam alert extensions blocking calls issue fixed
  • Audio playback via Bluetooth was causing Taptic engine to stop providing feedback. That has been fixed
