IPL 2014: Kevin Pietersen Scores 16 as Dehli Daredevils Lose to Sunrisers Hyderabad

Kevin Pietersen marked the start of his post-England career with defeat as the Delhi Daredevils lost by four runs to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League.

Pietersen made just 16 from 17 balls before being caught in the deep by Dale Steyn off the bowling of Darren Sammy as the Daredevils fell five runs short of their target of 185 to win their fourth group match.

It was the 33 year old's first appearance since being banished from the England team following the 5-0 Ashes whitewash defeat to Australia having missed Delhi's first three matches with a hand injury.

"Great game of cricket," said Pietersen.

"Hand is good as gold, proved in the dismissal. Shouldn't have hit it that far. Fantastic to be back. Just have to get over the line in a couple of the nail biters and will be back"
