The much awaited IPL inaugural ceremony took off on 3 April with performances from Katy Perry, Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Prabhu Deva.

Katy Perry appeared in a lehenga - an Indian attire - with matching accessories. The star performed her favourite "Teenage Dream" for the huge number of viewers present at the stadium and watching on television.

Meanwhile, Bollywood star Salman Khan, dressed in red pants, performed numbers from his latest blockbusters "Ready" and "Wanted" while Priyanka Chopra entertained the audience with her "Don 2" sequences and Kareena Kapoor did her famous "Chammak Challo". Veteran actor and dancer, Prabhu Deva also rocked the stage with his dance numbers and Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan recited a poem, penned by Prasoon Joshi.

The general review of the opening performances, though, is that it wasn't quite it should (ought) to have been! The IPL is the biggest money-maker in the game of cricket and the glamour quotient of this tournament has always been one of its biggest attractions!
