My Lovely Horse
A petition in Ireland was submitted to the Irish Parliament to make My Lovely Horse song from Father Ted the official song for next year's Eurovision Song Contest

The Irish parliament has rejected a petition to make "My Lovely Horse" from the popular TV comedy Father Ted the country's official entry in the Eurovision Song Contest next year.

The petition, named Legislate to make My Lovely Horse Ireland's entry for Eurovision 2015, was turned down by a parliamentary committee.

It said it "didn't have the musical expertise it needed" to force RTE – Ireland's National Television and Radio Broadcaster – to submit the entry.

The petition was submitted by an unincorporated association under the name of The People of Ireland (and interested Britons too).

It had hoped the song, made famous in the Eurosong episode of the hit TV series, be submitted as Ireland's official entry to the real competition.

But committee chairman Padraig Mac Lochlainn said the committee "didn't have the musical expertise" it needed to consider the issue.

Hilarous lyrics from the song include: "I want to shower you with sugar lumps, and ride you over fences. Polish your hooves every single day, and bring you to the horse dentist."
