An earthquake in Japan this morning measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale has prompted a Tsunami alert being issued for the east coast of the Miyagi Prefecture. They have been warned to expect at least a one metre high Tsunami wave of water. But this is an approximation.

A source from the US Geological Survey said the epicentre of the quake was about 183 miles from Kamiashi at a depth of about .33km. Local media report here that the quake has been felt in Sendai, as well as the capital Tokyo.

The Miyagi area was hit by a series of devastating earthquakes and Tsunami in 2011 ,the biggest one of March 9th which measured 8.9, triggered a 23-foot tsunami that battered Japan's coast, killing hundreds and sweeping away cars, homes, buildings, and boats.

At the moment we don't have any more details but stay tuned for the latest updates throughout the day.
