Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe is seeking an executive personal assistant to water his plants, do his dry cleaning and plan annual events including Christmas and family birthdays. The former England forward, who scored for the Black Cats in their 1-1 draw with Swansea on 22 August, has put out a job advert looking for someone who is "flexible, hands-on and be capable multitasking" – qualities possessed by successful Premier League managers.

As well as answering phone calls and responding to emails, the advert, which appears on secsinthecity.co.uk – a site that specialises in finding personal assistants – says candidates would tend to Defoe's personal needs including "drycleaners, gardeners, house refurbishments, sourcing interior designers and everyday task". They would also be responsible for "managing and organising" Defoe's family and his pets. The job is Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5.30pm and the chosen personal assistant must be on call 24/7.

Similar jobs advertised on the site command a salary of up to £60,000, less than a week's work for the 32-year-old who earns a reported £70,000-a-week.

Other tasks listed are "regularly checking the home when Defoe is away, making sure all is in place for his return, ie fridge is stocked and plants watered and house is clean". They must also select and organise his wardrobe for events and appearances and plan events such as Father's Day, source tickets for the theatre, concerts, cinema and musicals as well as creating an inventory for holiday villas.

Potential projects in the pipeline of his company Defoe Enterprise that the personal assistant would assist with are listed as growing the Jermain Defoe foundation charity, creating his a clothing line/fragrance and starting up his own sports mentoring and management company and a football academy.
