Tributes have been pouring in from British politicians after Labour MP Jo Cox was murdered in Birstall, West Yorkshire on 16 June. The MP for Batley and Spen was shot in her constituency and 52-year-old Thomas Mair has been arrested in connection with the attack.

Groups on both sides have suspended EU referendum campaigning following Cox's death and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has issued a statement in tribute to the politician. In it he said the Labour Paety and the "whole country will be in shock at the horrific murder of Jo Cox today". He said the MP was "universally liked" and said the party has "lost a much-loved colleague".

Prime Minister David Cameron called her a "committed and caring MP", while Yvette Cooper said "Cannot believe we have lost you". Labour MP Hilary Benn said she was "the best of humanity", while leader of the Liberal Democrats Tim Farron said "an attack on an elected representative is an attack on everyone".
