John Lewis is once again bucking the trend of most major UK retailers by starting its post-Christmas sales the day after Boxing Day this year.
Sales items will instead appear online later today (24 December) and will include cameras, tablets, TVs, furniture, homeware and clothing at reduced prices.
The Boxing Day sales come less than a month after what was the department store's busiest ever week of trading over Black Friday, hitting £179m in sales.
John Lewis broke its all-time sales record in the last week of November, selling on average one tablet every second and a flatscreen TV every minute.
In an effort to boost pre-Christmas sales, John Lewis extended the cut-off date for click-and-collect to 23 December for in-store collection today.
"The record levels of trade in our fashion and home assortments are hard won in what has been a challenging market," said Andrew Murphy, retail director at John Lewis.
"However, busy though our shops have been over the past week, it's only in these final pre-Christmas days that many customers are finally moving to complete their gift buying and other purchases."
