Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been banned for one match and fined a combined £58,000 after being found guilty of two charges by the Football Association. The Portuguese coach has been hit with a heavy financial penalty for comments relating to referee Anthony Taylor before the Premier League draw at Liverpool, while his touchline ban and additional fine comes after he was sent to the stands during the goalless draw with Burnley.

Mourinho will watch the game against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium this weekend from outside the dugout after he admitted to "using abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official". The former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach was sent to the stands for the second half of the stalemate with the Clarets after raging at official Mark Clattenburg for not awarding a first-half penalty for Jon Flanagan's trip on Matteo Darmian. The punishment also includes an £8,000 fine.

The charge was the second handed to the two-time European Cup winner in as many weeks after the FA found Mourinho had "brought the game into disrepute" after claiming that Altrincham-based Taylor would find it "difficult" to have a good game in the game against Liverpool at Anfield. The United manager accepted the comments constituted improper conduct but denied the higher tariff of punishment.

Taylor's appointment was criticised by Liverpool fans prior to the 0-0 draw at Anfield, and Mourinho produced a frank response to the concerns. "I think Mr Taylor is a very good referee but I think somebody with intention is putting such a pressure on him that I feel it will be difficult for him to have a very good performance," the United coach said, according to ESPN. "I have my view but I understood and I learned a lesson by being punished so many times for some words so I don't want to say anything [more] about it."

The latest flurry of action from English football's governing body sees fines handed down to Mourinho approach £200,000. Mourinho refused to comment regarding the multiple disciplinary cases during his pre-match duties ahead of United's Europa League clash with Fenerbahce in Turkey, merely stating, according to the Manchester Evening News: "There's no reaction."
