Upgrade JRO03L ROM Based Jelly Bean for Galaxy Nexus i9250 [How to Install]
JRO03L based Jelly Bean custom ROM offers faster and smoother performance than its predecessor – JRO03H Google

Galaxy Nexus i9250 gets yet another custom ROM upgrade for Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean based on the newer JRO03L build. The newer custom ROM follows its predecessor - JRO03H official Android 4.1.1 build - that was released just a couple of days earlier.

Thanks to XDA developer udk, the latest official build for Jelly Bean - JRO03L - offers better customisation features, besides providing faster and smoother performance than its predecessor - JRO03H. With due credit to the new custom Linaro-optimised kernel, the JRO03L offers a few performance tweaks under its hood, besides a few subtle-feature-changes like different homescreen launcher, addition of apps like Google Earth etc.

Prerequisites

  • The ROM and the instructions provided in this guide are compatible only with the international GSM Galaxy Nexus model - i9250. It will not work on any other devices. To verify your device model number, Go to Settings > About Phone.
  • Please note this procedure will wipe all your apps, data and settings on the phone. IBTimes UK advises users to backup important data including bookmarks, contacts, SMS and APNs to avoid data loss.
  • It is necessary to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP recovery tool on your Galaxy Nexus before proceeding with the custom ROM installation procedure. Users may refer to our step-by-step guide for unlocking bootloader and flashing TWRP recovery posted here.

Here is a step-by-step guide to install JRO03L ROM Based Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean for Galaxy Nexus i9250.

How to Install JRO03L ROM Based Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean on Galaxy Nexus i9250

Step 1: Download the latest version of ROM from XDA Developers official thread (download here).

Step 2: Without extracting the file, copy the file downloaded in step 1 to phone (DO NOT use any unzip software to do this, else you may accidentally extract the files)

Step 3: Power off the phone and boot into TWRP/CWM recovery. This can be done with a button sequence. Press and hold the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power buttons together until the screen turns on. Then, navigate to the Restart Recovery option using the volume buttons, and then select it using the Power button to reboot into recovery mode.

Step 4: Now, hit Backup and then slide the blue circle button at the bottom to the right to start backing up your existing ROM. This backup allows you to restore older ROM, if something fails to work with the new ROM. Once backup is done, return to the main menu by clicking the home button at the bottom left of the screen.

Step 5: Select Wipe, and then tap Factory Reset. Now, confirm the data wipe action by clicking Yes. Please note this procedure will not erase contents of your internal SD card and you don't have to backup its data. Now, return to the main menu by clicking the home button once wipe is complete.

Step 6: Select Install, then browse and select the ROM file you downloaded in step 1. Confirm installation to flash it.

Step 7: After the ROM is installed, tap the Reboot system button to reboot the phone and boot up into the ROM. First boot may take up to 5-7 minutes, although subsequent boots should be faster.
NOTE: To restore your previous ROM, shut down the phone and boot into TWRP recovery. Now, hit Restore to restore your previous ROM. Once the ROM is restored, simply reboot your phone.

The JRO03L based Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean ROM is now installed and you can enjoy the rich flavour of Jelly Bean goodness on your Galaxy Nexus.
