All the latest transfer rumours from Tottenham as the Harry Redknapp lines up his transfer targets. It is believed that Tottenham are ready to rival Arsenal's bid for Juan Mata and will challenge Mata to decide who he wants to join. Tottenham are also linked with Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay as reports circulate striker Jermain Defoe could be on his way to Newcastle.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham is preparing to hijack Arsenal's bid for Spanish under 21 captain Juan Mata. The newspaper claims that Harry Redknapp has launched a late bid to hijack any deal Arsenal may have in place with Valencia for Juan Mata. It is claimed that Arsenal have bid for the player who is seen by many as Spain's brightest prospect but Tottenham are now ready to show their hand.

Spurs are said to be facing up to the fact that they will lose Luca Modric to Chelsea this summer and see Juan Mata as an ideal replacement. Tottenham believe they can sign the winger for around £13m due to Valencia's crippling debts. It is suggested that Arsenal have had a similar bid accepted for the Spaniard and a transfer tussle between the north London clubs is expected to ensue.

Reports in Spain claim that Tottenham has launched a bid for Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay. The player was linked with a move to Tottenham in yesterday's English and Spanish press and the Spanish newspaper Sport now claim that Harry Redknapp has launched a bid for the player.

It is thought that Afellay will be allowed to leave the Nou Camp on the relative cheap this summer after Barcelona finally captured long summer target Alexis Sanchez. The 25 year old is now deemed surplus to requirements and Redknapp is believed to have made his move. Redknapp is said to see Afellay as the cheaper alternative to Juan Mata as a replacement for Luka Modric, if the Croatian leaves White Hart Lane this summer.

The Daily Mail claims that Newcastle are readying a bid for Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe. Jermain Defoe has become the latest player linked with Newcastle as the club look to replace Andy Carroll who they sold to Liverpool for £35m in the January transfer window. The 28 year old has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane after a frustrating season where he found himself on the bench for most of Tottenham's crucial games. Redknapp is also said to want to refresh his striking options this summer and is willing to allow Defoe to leave the club for around £10m.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was coy when asked about the transfer story. "I'm not going to use the word 'promise,' it is a dangerous word. However, I am confident we will get a striker in. Plenty of fans have come out to see us and mentioned on more than one occasion to me, 'Where's the striker?' It is not something that is far from my mind," Pardew said.
