Kanye West clearly likes taking on big challenges. As if prepping to run for president of USA was not enough, the rapper now reportedly has plans to try his hand at recording a David Bowie tribute album.

According to the Daily Star, the 38-year-old star has voiced his thoughts on putting his own spin on the recently deceased musician's most popular tracks including Charges, Heroes and Rebel, Rebel. The tabloid reported that the Yeezus rapper wants to make a mix of "straightforward covers" as well as mixes that will include his own rhymes.

While the idea of a rapper wanting to take on one of the music world's most iconic and innovative artist's works is commendable, Ziggy Stardust fans are anything but pleased. Almost 5,000 people have signed a petition that was created on 19 January to stop West from taking a go at the project.

The description of the petition titled "Stop Kanye West recording covers of David Bowie's music", created by Peter Pirahna reads: "David Bowie was one of the single most important musicians of the 20th and 21st century, it would be a sacrilege to let it be ruined by Kanye West."

Neither the rapper nor his representatives have offered a statement as to the validity of the Daily Star's claims.
