The little prince may be only a few hours old, but predictions about the royal baby's personality traits have already been analysed by astrologers from different parts of the world.

The baby, born at 4:24 pm (local time) on Monday, is a Cancer just like his father Prince William and late grandmother Princess Diana. Astrologers say, had the baby boy been born half an hour later, he would have been a Leo.

Although the two zodiac signs are right next to each other on the calendar, personality traits of people belonging to either of these signs vary tremendously. Cancer is a water sign ruled by the moon while Leo is a fire sign ruled by the sun.

Those who fall under Cancer are born between 22 June and 22 July, although the dates vary slightly every year. Prince William himself was born on 21 June while Diana, Princess of Wales, was born on 1 July.

The Duchess of Cambridge went into labour at 5.30am on Monday morning while Prince William stayed by her side at the private Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, west London. It was the same hospital whre Princess Diana gave birth to both her sons.

According to Deike Begg, an astrologer with The Association of Professional Astrologers International, the birth timings are extremely crucial in defining a person's personality traits.

Cancerians are known to be more conservative in nature. While the baby's zodiac sign is same as his father's, his ruling moon will be in Capricorn, the same sign as his mother's.

"This means the baby will share a lot of the parents' personality traits. As a Cancer, the child will be very family-oriented like its parents and sensitive. Cancerians often appear strong on the outside but are very soft on the inside," Begg said.

Begg added that a Capricorn moon means the baby will be not only be aware of his responsibilities, but also will be dependable.

Other famous Cancerians include former South African president Nelson Mandela and Hollywood actor Tom Cruise.

Before the baby arrived, astrologer Patrick Arundell said that as a Cancerian, the baby could possess more conventional traits. However, if he had been born under a Leo sign, he would have grown up to be a ground-breaker.

"Mars and Jupiter are conjunct in Cancer and that will give the baby a tremendous amount of go-get energy and that is already in motion," Arundell said.

"Venus and the Sun are also in a magnetic connection which will give the baby a star quality and a sparkling charisma," he added.

Dr. Elizabeth Hurran, an historian at the University of Leicester, told the Telegraph: "Before the era of DNA and genome sequencing, casting a Royal Heraldry chart was the way people checked the genetic heritage of the monarch's bloodline."

"Historically speaking, the Royal family have a much better track-record with Leos than Cancerians,"Hurran added.
