Kim Kardashian reportedly "broke down" over husband Kanye West's home movie footage homage for her birthday, as she continues to battle the trauma of her gunpoint robbery in Paris that saw her bound and gagged and robbed of $10m (£8m) worth of jewellry.

The social media icon, who turned 36 on Friday (October 21) has stayed eerily quiet across all platforms since the horrifying events, with reports suggesting the family are looking to cut back on exposure to ensure security, particularly given Kim's three-year-old daughter, North, with rap star West.

But a source told Hollywood Life that the silence is not only virtual – Kim has struggled to be herself over recent weeks. West's surprise birthday video – shared online in her absence – proved to be the tipping point and she "broke down in tears."

"She doesn't even know how he found all of that old footage. When he showed it to her, she completely broke down in tears, she was so touched.

"Seeing her father [Robert Kardashian, who died when she was young] and hearing his voice again was just too much. It was amazing. Remembering him and their family was just what she needed after feeling so shaken up by the robbery."

Despite all the love around her, Kim remains "on the fence" about partying, claims the source. "Even though she may not be in the mood to celebrate she might try to go out and have a casual dinner with friends and family or at worst, have a few close friends over to the house for cake."

One former friend who certainly won't be invited is Beyonce Knowles. The powerhouse diva has reportedly left Kim "shocked and saddened" by failing to reach out to her. This lack of support may be the reason why West, 39, lashed out at her husband Jay-Z, his former artistic mentor, on-stage earlier this week.

"Kim is realising who she can and can not rely on during tough times. She is sad and disappointed that certain people like Beyonce have been so cold," revealed an insider.
