Kristen Stewart has finally revealed as to what went wrong when she was in a highly publicised relationship with Robert Pattinson. The American Ultra star has said that dating the 30-year-old actor was "gross" and "wasn't real life".

The 26-year-old actress told The New York Times that she understood that her relationship with her Twilight co-star would be under intense media scrutiny but the stress that came with it was hard to bear for her.

"People wanted me and Rob [Robert Pattinson] to be together so badly that our relationship was made into a product. It wasn't real life anymore. And that was gross to me. It's not that I want to hide who I am or hide anything I'm doing in my life. It's that I don't want to become a part of a story for entertainment value," Stewart told NYT.

Stewart and Rob began dating after meeting on the set of the Twilight franchise. However, the couple split in 2013 after the actress got involved with her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders.

Stewart also talked about why she has chosen to be more open about her relationship with visual effects producer Alicia Cargile. The couple recently got back together after the actress split from former girlfriend Soko earlier in the year. The couple was first spotted together at the Cannes Film Festival on 15 May after rekindling their romance.

"I would never talk about any of my relationships before, but once I started dating girls it seemed like there was an opportunity to represent something really positive," she said. "I still want to protect my personal life, but I don't want to seem like I'm protecting the idea, so that does sort of feel like I owe something to people."
