Lady Gaga has showed fans the black eyes she received after being hit on the head by a metal pole during a concert.

The 26-year-old singer took to Twitter to assure her Little Monsters that she was on the mend following the accident on stage in New Zealand.

In the candid snap showing her bruised eyes, the Poker Face hitmaker puts on as brave face and poses with messy hair and red lipstick.

She accompanied the image with the caption: "Emerging from hours of sleep. Still remiss if I should go outside, with this clonker I may be of questionable styling."

The star also thanked her 25.5 million followers for their messages of support by later tweeting: "Thank you so much for all the thoughtful messages. I feel a bit woozy but a little better every day. Very happy to be in beautiful Australia."

Gaga was left clutching her head on stage when a backing dancer accidentally struck her with the prop as she completed the New Zealand leg of her Born This Way world tour.

A consummate professional, she bravely finished the show despite the head injury.

She told the crowd "I want to apologise. I did hit my head and I think I may have concussion but don't you worry, I will finish this show."
