A California woman has been accused of battering her boyfriend to death with a can of chicken soup.

Linda Clarene Jackson, 59, is said to used the the contents of her kitchen − including a tin of peas and a can of carrots − as weapons against her partner David Ruiz at her home.

Ruiz, 59, of Lake Los Angeles died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the bludgeoning, which happened on Tuesday (16 June).

According to NBC Los Angeles, Jackson was arrested two days later but was unable to attend her initial court hearing as she was reported unwell.

Her bail was reported to be set at $1m (£630,000, €880,000).
