Music icon Prince, a global legend renowned for his vocal range, love of purple and wide-ranging musicianship, has passed away at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota, aged 57.

Born Prince Roger Nelson, the American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actor blessed the world with his talents over three decades and was widely known for his eclectic work, flamboyant and electrifying stage presence and snake-hipped sexual charisma. He embarked on his music career during the 70s and went onto huge critical and commercial acclaim as one of the world's greatest entertainers, wowing audiences with impromptu concerts.

Prince became a world-famous superstar in the 1980s and sold over 100 million records over the course of his career, with albums such as 1999, Purple Rain and Sign O' the Times. He recorded more than 30 LPs during his life and his best-known hits include Let's Go Crazy and When Doves Cry.
