Lindsay Lohan is heading back to work following her stint in rehab.

Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan has landed her first acting role since completing a stint in rehab.

According to E! News the embattled star will appear in the fourth and final season of HBO comedy Eastbound and Down.

Lohan confirmed the news on Instragram by posting a snap captioned: "#back@work! So grateful today! :)"

Eastbound and Down follows the downfall and rebirth of foul-mouthed former major league baseball pitcher Powers, played by Danny McBride, whose bad attitude and drug and alcohol problems wrecked his once red-hot career.

The 27-year-old Mean Girls star is expected to play the daughter of one of the main characters.

It will be her first role since The Canyons, which she made before she went into rehab earlier this year. The movie was panned on release this month.

Lohan, who has had multiple run-ins with the law in recent months, successfully completed a court-ordered 90-day treatment at the Cliffside Malibu Rehab Centre in California.

But film director Paul Schrader believes that it will take a little more to save her ailing career.

"If she can create a reputation of reliability, and that's her number one problem, she will have a career because people do like her," he said.
