Lindsay Lohan has revealed that she is learning about Islam as she develops her spirituality. The Mean Girls actress was pictured carrying a copy of the Koran in New York last summer on the first day of community service.
The 29-year-old has now opened up about her exploration of Islam. She told The Sun newspaper: "I'm a very spiritual person and I'm really open to learning. America has portrayed holding a Koran in such a different way to what it actually is. We all believe in something and at the end of the day it all ties to a god or a spiritual adviser."
The Catholic-born star said that she hasn't yet finished reading the holy book adding: "Do you know how long that would take?" Lohan, has previously explored the Kabbalah, the spiritual practice followed by Madonna and Courtney Love, and was rumoured to be attending Kabbalah classes. She also revealed that her sister is a Buddhist.
"We all have a similar belief in whatever it may be personally. My sister is Buddhist but she is still interested in learning other things from me. It's good to be open-minded."
In a docu-series with Oprah Winfrey she discussed her spiritual practice saying: "I'm a very spiritual person and I've become more spiritual as time has gone on. I'm really in touch, whether it's prayer or meditation ... there are so many powers greater than me in the world. I've been blessed and lucky enough to have been given a gift to share with other people," she said.
The actress, who recently attended the 6th Asian Awards in London, is one of a number of high profile celebrities, including Mike Tyson and Janet Jackson, who have embraced Islam. The former child star is said to be settling down and is rumoured to have got engaged to Russian heir and businessman Egor Tarabasov.
Lohan, 29, and her 22-year-old boyfriend began dating about five months ago. She moved into his London home recently following an Instagram message which said she wasn't "cool enough" for Los Angeles — and posted a photo of herself wearing a paper bag on her head.
A rep for the actress has told Page Six that she is exploring her spirituality. "Lindsay has always been very spiritual and is open to exploring all religions and beliefs. She is simply educating herself on other peoples beliefs."
