Jamie Redknapp believes that the pressure mounting on Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish shouldn't result in the club making any knee-jerk reactions on his current position at the club, with the Reds continuing to struggle in the league.

Kenny Dalglish's squad can boast just two wins from their last 10 matches, and the side are looking very unlikely to qualify for Champions League next season, currently sitting eight points behind fifth-placed Newcastle.

And as Liverpool prepare to face the Toon this weekend at St James' Park, Redknapp has argued that Dalglish needs more time to show his abilities in the managerial position before Reds' fans can call for his sacking.

"There is no doubt in mind that Kenny Dalglish is the right man for Liverpool, but I just hope people give him the time to prove it," he told Sky Sports.

"He's come under increasing pressure in the last few weeks after some bad results for the club, but I think it's important we put this poor run and Liverpool's achievements this year, and as a whole in recent seasons, into perspective.

"I totally disagree with those who are blaming his tactics for the team's form and the fact that he'd been out of the game for 10 years before returning last year. It's not as though Liverpool were fighting for the title consistently before he came in.

"He signed me as a 17-year-old so I have a massive amount of respect for him, but I honestly believe he will prove to be the right man for the club, even if it has been difficult so far."

Much criticism has been based around Liverpool's positioning compared to Newcastle, with the Toon having spent far less money on building their squad over the past year, and currently looking likely to finish above the Anfield club in the table.

But Redknapp believes that if Liverpool can indeed win the FA Cup and seal the cup double this season, they will have a lot to be proud of, even if they don't qualify for Champions League.

"If they finish the season with a cup double we will all be saying what a great campaign it has been for a club that had gone six years without any silverware before their Wembley win against Cardiff last month," he explained.
