Liverpool are considering a shock move in signing Valencia midfielder Seydou Keita in the summer transfer window, according to the Express.

The 34-year-old was subjected to interest from the Merseyside club in January, while he was with his former club Dalian Aerbin. He rejected a chance to join the Reds and completed his switch from the Chinese outfit to Valencia on a six-month deal.

Keita's contract with the Spanish side runs down in June and he has not signed an extension to continue with his current employers next season.

The report claims the Mail international's situation at Valencia has alerted Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers is eyeing to bring the defensive midfielder to Anfield on a free transfer.

In the last transfer window, he snubbed a chance to join the Reds as he was not assured of regular playing time.

Liverpool have qualified for the next season's Champions League and a summer switch to England will see the former Swansea boss use Keita as a squad player.

The Express reports the wages the Reds are ready to offer the midfielder will not be able to match by Valencia.

Keita already has the Champions League experience under his belt with his former club Barcelona. A chance to play in the Premier League might tempt him leave the Spanish outfit and join Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge believes England were not at their best during their tie against Peru in the international friendly, despite winning the game 3-0 win at Wembley on Friday.

"It was difficult because they defended well, they were very compact. We've worked very hard throughout the week also and we weren't as sharp as we'd have liked to have been," Sturridge said.

"It was great to be out there to try and put a performance on for the fans and I'm happy with the result."

"It's not important about myself. It's about the team and the preparation for us. It's about putting in a shift, tactically, technically and doing everything possible to be in optimum shape for the first game," the Liverpool star concluded.
