Liverpool are interested in signing Lazio forward Keita Balde Diao, but face stern competition from Inter Milan according to the player's agent.

The 20-year-old scored one Serie A goal last season in 23 appearances but his emergence from the Barcelona's much-famed La Masia academy, plus his previous links with Manchester United according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, sees him regarded as a player for the future.

Despite the modest start to his club form in Europe, the player's agent Ulisse Savini has addressed the Spanish youngster's future and says that while Liverpool are interested in the player, Inter lead the race.

"For years there have been several offers coming in, but considering the situation I have to say this summer they are particularly interesting," he told Radio Sei according to Sky Sports.

"I personally spoke to Lazio and they said his sale is not predicted. It's only natural that he isn't satisfied with the situation, so we are evaluating other options.

"Liverpool have a manager who relishes attacking players like Keita. It is a destination we would like, but we have to verify a series of situations. So far I have not had any direct contact with Liverpool.

"Inter? I have an excellent rapport with them and know they are seeking wide attackers. The Nerazzurri really like Keita, but I think right now they are aiming for other objectives.

"In life you never know, as you might not get the first target and go for a second. I wouldn't rule them out."

Liverpool have already made six signings this summer in the form of Danny Ings, James Milner, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne, but further additions could yet be made.

Christian Benteke continues to be linked with a move to Anfield as the club attempt to pursue a new striker after last season's troubles in front of goal.
