Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is loaning Andre Wisdom to West Bromwich to continue his development.

The 21-year-old defender already enjoyed a successful loan spell at Derby County last season, making 38 consecutive starts at right-back while helping his side to finish third. However, Derby County failed to secure promotion to the Premier League after a play-off final defeat by Queens Park Rangers.

The defender was named for the pre-season with Liverpool's first team, hoping to eventually secure a place in Rodgers' squad ahead of a busy season.

Even though Wisdom featured in both friendlies against Brondby and Preston North End, Rodgers wants him to have more experience with a Premier League side before making his return to Liverpool.

"After today, Andre is going to go on loan to West Brom," Rodgers told Liverpool official website.

"He'll join up with them sooner rather than later and spend the season there on loan. That will be another step for him in his development, playing regularly in the Premier League."

"He had a very successful period at Derby last year, he did very well under Steve McClaren. He now has the opportunity to go to another very good coach in Alan Irvine, who I know from my youth days. He is an excellent coach and West Brom are an excellent club.

"West Brom have been a rising club for the last few years in the Premier League. He'll go there and it will be another chance for his education and development to continue.

Wisdom signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool last year as Rodgers still sees a bright future in him – as he can play both as a centre-back and on the flanks.

Indeed, the former Swansea manager already gave him his debut with Liverpool first team two seasons ago in the Europe League again Young Boys, with the youngster scoring a goal to lead his side to a 5-3 victory.
