Liverpool host Southampton at Anfield for the weekend Premier League fixture as the Reds look to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Where to Watch

Kick-off is set for 3pm BST. Live commentary will be available on BBC Live 5. Highlights of the game will be available on Match of the Day on BBC One and BBC One HD at 10:30pm BST.

Overview

Liverpool are in the form of their life this season, currently unbeaten in the league, having won three and drawn one of the first four games thus far. A win here will see them take their tally of points to 13, four ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham who play on Sunday. Their last game in the league ended in a 2-2 draw with Swansea City, which was largely influenced by a haphazard performance from former Reds midfielder Jonjo Shelvey who created two goals for Swansea while his wayward passing led to Liverpool securing a point out of the game.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that their good fortune carries on into this game, with the Merseyside currently without their creative spark in midfield Philippe Coutinho who will be out for up to six weeks after undergoing a shoulder surgery. Luis Suarez will serve his final game on the sidelines and will start against Manchester United in the Capital One Cup in midweek. However, Daniel Sturridge has been in fine form in the Uruguayan's absence, scoring a goal in each of their last four games.

Southampton will be looking back at their record against Liverpool and will be desperate to pull off yet another upset this season. The Saints have won four of their last six meetings in all competitions, an enviable record against one of England's biggest clubs.

However, manager Mauricio Pochettino will be worried by his team's lack of flair upfront, having scored only two goals thus far this season. The Saints are currently 11th in the league, having won one and drawn two of their last four games.

What the Managers Say

Brendan Rodgers: "I haven't even considered that [a title challenge] at all - the only focus is the next game. We'll assess it after 10 games, see where we sit there, then the halfway point and we'll probably have a more realistic idea of where we can be."

Mauricio Pochettino: "We know Philippe Coutinho will probably be out of this game but we need to take care of that midfield to make sure the balls don't go through to Sturridge. It's clear that they are a very powerful side and Anfield is a great stadium to play in."
