Liverpool are easily in one of the worst runs of form in the club's long history and are reportedly looking to counter the string of defeats and poor performances by signing Italian Serie A club Fiorentina's winger Juan Manuel Vargas, according to a report in The Sun. The Peruvian international, incidentally, is also believed to be a target for Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

The Italian club, who have reportedly rejected Bayern's £8 million bid, are believed to be negotiating with the Reds, who are keen to import fresh talent to Anfield, during the summer. However, according to a Metro report, Russian Super League side Zenit St Petersburg, are also interested in Vargas and may even be ahead of Liverpool in the race.

Meanwhile, as part of a different deal, the Italians have also asked for the loan of Liverpool's 18 year old Spanish striker Jesus Fernandez Saez, with an option to make a permanent transfer, should he impress the club.

Vargas who was rumoured, in the recent past, to be joining Spanish giants Real Madrid, transferred to his present club from Italian Serie B outfit Catania in 2008. The 27 year old midfielder is prized for his versatility that can see him play both in defensive and offensive positions, although the player himself reportedly prefers playing out on the wing.

In a related piece of news, another of Liverpool's summer targets, 23 year old Argentinean striker Matias Suarez has been warned against going to Anfield, by former Liverpool player Milan Jovanovic, 30. The Serbian international, who was repeatedly benched after Dalglish took over, has said his Anderlecht team mate will probably be just as miserable as he was, another Sun report stated.

"I shed lots of tears in England. I felt unhappy every day over there. London is a nice place to live but everywhere else is depressing. I have advised Suarez not to move to Liverpool. They'll throw a lot of money at him but he should opt for Italy," Jovanovic is quoted as saying.

"He must go to Italy. He will like life there. A club like Juventus is right for him," the former Red was quoted as saying in a report by Metro.

Suarez, who has assisted 20 and scored 17 goals in 39 appearances for Belgian club Anderlecht this season, has attracted the interests of many Premier League clubs including Arsenal and Manchester City, who are all keen to sign the player.
