Liverpool are hoping to complete several deals before the transfer window closes on Monday and will kick off their late spending spree by attempting to sign defensive pair Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori.

The Telegraph reports that the Merseyside club have made a combined offer of £25m for the two centre-backs as they look to convince Sporting Lisbon and Paris Saint-Germain to part with their defensive stars.

Liverpool will make an offer of around £8m for Sporting defender Tiago Ilori, while PSG will receive £15m for Sakho as manager Brendan Rodgers attempts to make some late additions to his squad.

With the transfer window closing on Monday evening, Rodgers appears to believe he still needs to strengthen his squad and it may not be just Sakho and Ilori who arrive at Anfield in the coming days.

Reports suggest that Liverpool are also keen to bring Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given to the club as back-up for number one Simon Mignolet. With Pepe Reina having joined Napoli on loan, it seems Rodgers wants a stronger number two than Brad Jones.

The Northern Irishman is also hoping that he can convince Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to allow forward Victor Moses to join the club on a season-long loan.

Moses faces stiff competition for a place in the Blues' first team after seeing Andre Schurrle arrive in the summer, while Kevin de Bruyne has also been handed opportunities already this season.

While Liverpool will hope to land Given and Moses, it seems the priority is to secure the signatures of top targets Ilori and Sakho, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The Reds are relatively short of options at centre-back after seeing Sebastian Coates ruled out for the majority of the season, while Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure have both suffered injuries already this campaign.

Sakho, 23, has been heavily linked with a move away from the French champions after seeing his opportunities limited thanks to the impressive partnership of Alex and Thiago Silva in central defence.

Portuguese defender Ilori, 20, has also been consistently linked with Liverpool after failing to sign a new contract and it seems Sporting may be prepared to cash in on one of their most exciting young players.
