Overview

Liverpool welcome league leaders Arsenal for a Premier League clash at Anfield and it will be the first encounter between Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp in the English top-flight. The two managers have faced each other in the Champions League, when the latter was the manager of Borussia Dortmund with the Frenchman holding a 3-2 advantage in their six meetings.

The Reds are currently in eighth place in the league and are a massive 12 points behind the leaders, but the manager is confident the north London club are beatable despite being on a good run of form since the start of the year. Klopp is facing an injury crisis at the club and is currently facing a shortage of defenders and strikers ahead of crucial clashes against Arsenal and Manchester United coming up in the next five days.

Meanwhile, the Gunners, who are also hit with injuries to a number of midfield players will look to consolidate their place on the top of the table with Leicester City facing a tough encounter against in-form Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday (13 January). Wenger, however, had the luxury of resting in-form playmaker Mesut Ozil ahead of the game, while Mathieu Flamini and Per Mertesacker were also given a break following a hectic Christmas and New Year schedule.

Match Stat: The last nine Premier League meetings between these clubs at Anfield have seen 35 goals scored (3.9 per game on average).

What Managers Say

Jurgen Klopp: "Arsenal are not only a good possession team, they have good counter-attacks too and that's what you have to be aware of. It's always a big challenge to play Arsenal but they are beatable."

Arsene Wenger: "Every time we go to Anfield, we face a team who are up for it. It's always a ferocious battle, no matter who the manager is. They had a very strong manager before, they have a very strong one now and Klopp has the personality to do well there."
