Overview

The clash between Liverpool and Sevilla for the Europa League final will be an exciting one. The La Liga outfit have won the competition two years in a row and are on course to win it for the third straight time.

Liverpool progressed to the final after defeating Villarreal 3-0 in the second-leg of the semi-final, a clash they entered after losing the first leg in Spain 1-0. Sevilla sealed a berth in the final after defeating Shakhtar Donetsk over a two-legged semi-final clash.

Jurgen Klopp's side defeated Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund in the earlier rounds and that has boosted their confidence. Sevilla, on the other hand, have the experience of playing in the finals in the last two seasons and that could prove vital at St Jakob-Park.

The winner of the Europa League will get automatic qualification to the Champions League, irrespective of their league position. Both Liverpool and Sevilla will fight for the place in the Europe's elite club competition as a Champions League berth will be helpful to the club in attracting players in the summer transfer window.

What managers say:

Jurgen Klopp: "I expect it to be intense, of course. There will be challenges all over the pitch, there will be a lot of fight. You cannot win a cup with just 'a little bit of playing football'. You have to show that you're really ready for the big moments. It's a 50-50 situation — nobody is favourites, nobody is already halfway there. It's an intense game with all the circumstances — the hours before a final, and things like this —- but for me, the bigger the pressure, the cooler I get."

Unai Emry: "Playing in all these finals and winning these titles generated a lot of emotion which makes this a very special time to be at Sevilla. Sevilla are a historic club and have always had good spells, but this period we're going through right now is full of joy and passion that stem from playing in those finals and winning the titles. Sevilla care about this competition. You have to come up with the goods and rise to the challenge to go a long way in this competition. The fact that this is our third consecutive final demonstrates how focused and hungry we have been to do well in the Europa League, and win it.
