Shares in British banks were mixed on the FTSE 100 in morning trading, ahead of unemployment data due from the U.S.

At 13:30, British time, data on U.S. weekly jobless claims will be released along with the housing data for November.

By 11:05 shares in Lloyds Banking Group were up 1.12 per cent to 69.28 pence per share and Barclays shares increased 0.06 per cent to 262.15 pence per share.

However RBS shares declined 0.46 per cent to 40.57 pence per share and HSBC shares fell 0.01 per cent to 661.00 pence per share.

Overall the FTSE 100 was up 0.04 per cent to 5,884.32.
