London bade farewell to the 2012 games with a bang and a high octane romp through British pop music. The stadium was filled with royalty, celebrities and 10,500 athletes. This brought the curtain down on two weeks of sporting brilliance.

Lord Coe then took to the stage to praise these London 2012 games.

It was then the turn of Jacques Rogge the head of the Olympics to declare the games closed and handover to the next host country Brazil for the next games in 2016.

Then the flag was handed over to the 2016 host city, Rio.

And with a haunting refrain the Olympic flame is slowly extinguished to symbolise the end of the games.

These games saw Team GB win 65 medals in 16 different sports. 29 gold,17 silver and 19 bronze. In all, 44 world records have been set during London 2012, and 117 Olympic records broken. So the Olympics may be over but stay with us for all the Paralympics coverage starting on 29th August.
