A man has been shot in North London as a result of a "intelligence led operation" by police. The man later died from his injuries following the shooting in the area of in the area of Bracknell Close.

Metropolitan Police said there are no other reports of any injuries, and the incident in the Wood Green area is not terrorism related. London's Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service are in attendance.

Enquiries into the circumstances continue and the Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed.

The shooting occurred on the day Met Police launched its biggest ever crackdown against gun and knife crimes in the capital. The operation codenamed Kestrel - is being run by the Trident and Area Crime Command.

An Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) spokesperson said: "We're independently investigating the fatal shooting in north London. Investigators are heading to the scene and the post incident proceedure. At the post incident procedure our investigators will oversee the initial accounts given by officers involved."
