Overview

This fight was initially to be held at Ginasio do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo, Brazil, only to be shifted to Florida on 15 May. The Middleweight bout between Machida and Romero will be the main attracting of UFC Fight Night 70 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

A victory for Machida will help him get back in the mix at 185 pounds. He is hoping to bounce back after his defeat to Luke Rockhold in April. The Brazilian believes he has an edge over his weekend opponent for Fight Night 70 on Saturday.

Romero won nine out of the last 10 fights and the Olympic silver medal winner with Cuba in 2000 will be hoping to extend his winning streak when he takes on Machida. A defeat for Machida will be a massive blow in his desire to get back in the title picture.

What they say

Lyoto Machida: "I think middleweight is a great class for me because I can be stronger, I can be taller and I can be faster. I'm not going to hunt for the knockout (against Romero). I'll try to apply my technique, and do my best. But the knockout will be a consequence."
