The Met Police is hunting for the driver of a lorry after a man was ploughed into and killed along the hard shoulder of the M25 near Brentwood in Essex. Police believe the victim had crashed into the central reservation of the motorway before pulling over between junction 28 and 29 on Thursday (31 March) at approximately 9pm.

While he was at the side of the road a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) smashed into him. Paramedics fought to save his life but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have not yet been informed and enquiries are ongoing.

The driver of the lorry briefly stopped but did not remain at the scene and police have asked for witnesses to come forward to help them trace the driver. The road was closed while investigations went on and was reopened five hours later:

Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call Roads and Transport police via 020 7232 783.
